Choosing a Home Security Company

Home Security Company

This post is originally authored at the home security blog at FamilyHomeSecurity.com.

At first glance, choosing a company for your home’s security can be a bit intimidating. There are hundreds of different companies, each of which claim to be the best choice for effective and affordable home security. Choosing a home security company can be made much easier by comparing each company’s offers with your personal security needs. Since each person’s specific security requirements are different, it can significantly affect the compatibility of certain types of monitored home security systems. Here are a few tips to help you to choose the best home security company to suit your needs.

Check Official Information
A great way to get some official feedback about a home security company is to contact the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association. This association has strict standards for home security companies, and can provide you with a list of which companies are approved for membership. For example, some companies participate in the “Installation Quality Certification Program”, which has strict standards to help ensure that home security systems are installed properly.

The Better Business Bureau
Contacting the Better Business Bureau can be a great way to check the legitimacy of some of the lesser-known home security companies. The Better Business Bureau regularly publishes reports which assess the effectiveness and reliability of certain businesses, as well as warning against companies that have been involved in fraudulent activities. If you are considering a home security company that does not have a well-known name, it can be beneficial to check the Better Business Bureau listings. However, its important to remember that companies need to pay to be listed in the Better Business Bureau, so the lists are not all-inclusive.

Ask Your Friends
A great way to get feedback on home security companies is to ask your friends and neighbors. Since home security systems can be more effective when clearly advertised, you can sometimes identify which of your neighbors that have security systems by their yard signs. Ask them about their experience with their home security company, as well as which aspects of their monitoring service that they find to be most useful. However, its still important to remember that different lifestyles may warrant different home security companies. Try to find other friends or neighbors whose interests and lifestyles closely match your own.

Online Reviews
Another method that you can use to research home security companies is to search online. Reading online reviews can provide you with a well-rounded view of specific companies. Online reviews often rate a company’s service, cost, effectiveness and value. However, it’s important to take online reviews of home security companies with a grain of salt. In many cases, a person is much more likely to write a review about a negative experience, than a positive one. If you’d like, write down all the concerns you may have after reading negative reviews of a specific company. Then, contact the company directly, and ask them how they can work to address your concerns. A reputable company will offer useful and honest solutions or feedback about any concerns that you may have.

How to Change Your ADT Security Code

ADT Security Code

This post is originally authored at the home security blog at FamilyHomeSecurity.com.

Since the process of changing your code is different for different security systems, it’s important to consult you user’s manual before attempting to change the security code on your own. This guide is designed to help people with ADT security systems to change their security code.

Step 1
First, you will need to enter the master code for your system. In many ADT security system models, you will need to enter “*5″, and then your master security code. Your master security code was most likely set by the ADT when your system is installed. If you have forgotten your master security code, you can receive a new code (or access your existing code) by calling customer service. When calling ADT’s customer service, be prepared with your identification information, as well as information about your account with ADT.

Step 2
After your master security code has been entered, you can enter the number that you want to assign to this new security code. Since many of ADT’s security systems allow you to have different security codes, you need to designate each one with a specific number. If this is the first security code that you are entering, designate it to “01″.

Step 3
Now you can enter the sequence of numbers which you want to designate as your new security code. When choosing a security code for your ADT system, use the same rules that you would use when choosing a computer password. Try to avoid using a number that will be easy to guess, such as numbers in a sequence. Repetitive numbers are also discouraged. Since you also want the code to be easy for you to remember, you can use a family birthday, your first cell phone number, or the address number of your childhood home. To let you know that the new code has been programmed correctly, your system should emit a beeping noise.

Step 4
To make sure that you have correctly activated the new security code, you will need to test it. Begin the test by arming the security system. Once the system is armed, enter the new security code to deactivate the system. If the system isn’t deactivated, you will need to repeat steps 1-3 until you are able to program a new code correctly.

Step 5
If you have any trouble designating a new security code for your ADT system, you can always get help by contacting ADT’s customer support hotline. As stated before, be prepared to give your identification information to the ADT customer assistant, since this will allow you to get prompt assistance.

Additional Tips

In some cases, you may have difficulty in changing your security code, or assigning a security code to a specific number. For all troubleshooting questions, it’s highly recommended that you first consult the owner’s manual that came with your ADT security system, and attempt to solve the problem. If this doesn’t work, you may then try calling customer service. Do not attempt to modify, alter or otherwise tamper with your home security system, unless directed to do so by an ADT customer service assistant.

Surveillance Cameras Catch Burglars

camera

This post is originally authored at the home security blog at FamilyHomeSecurity.com.

An 87-year-old man from Florida can testify that home security systems actually work and catch criminals. He has his monitoring system and police to thank for his safety and rescue from three burglars.

The elderly man had been a victim of burglars twice already, and he decided it was time to have some home security. Working with his local Brevard County police, he had surveillance cameras installed. The Brevard County police monitored the video surveillance, and the 87-year-old did not mind at all. Instead, it gave him a sense of security to know someone was watching.

Early on August 30, the surveillance cameras paid off. When detectives entered their office, they saw three burglars on the live feed from the elderly man’s home. The burglars were walking around the home, and police immediately drove to the man’s aid. When the police arrived, the three burglars were attempting to force the 87-year-old man into his car. They planned on driving the man to his bank and forcing him to completely empty his bank account. They would then steal his money.

The burglars were never able to implement their plan because police arrived before they could back out of the driveway. Police arrested Christopher Comella, Anthony Millar and Matthew Zachas and charged them with kidnapping and home invasion. Thanks to the man’s 24/7 surveillance cameras, he was saved from a kidnapping and robbery.

4 Simple Steps to Becoming a Better Blogger

I’m assuming that if you have started blogging, you’re at least moderately interested in becoming a better blogger. At least I hope you are, especially if you’re trying to build a business with your blog. Just the simple act of blogging will not build you a successful business.
You’ve got to become a great blogger. You’ve got to be able to write blog posts that engage people and get them to take action, and you can’t do that without following a plan to improve your blogging as time goes on.
There’s no real tried and true system to help you improve your blogging, but there are some steps you can follow that will, if practiced consistently, greatly improve your blogging and help you build your business.
Simple Step #1 – Blog Early, Blog Often. OK, the first part of this tip is simply my own personal view. I don’t have any evidence to back it up, but I do believe that you should blog early, like early in the morning. That doesn’t mean you have to get up at 4AM every day and write a blog post. It means that you should publish your posts early in the day, before 9AM. People have a better chance of seeing your posts before they head out the door and start their work day. Catch them early.
Secondly, blog often. Blog as often as you can, and be consistent. If you decide to blog every day, commit to it and follow through. Your readers will appreciate it.
Simple Step #2 – Read Other Blogs in Your Niche. People ask me all the time, “How do I find topics to write about?” when it really couldn’t be any easier. Find a group of bloggers in your niche that deliver quality content. Now, don’t be so sleazy as to just copy and paste what they’re talking about. Look around and see what topics are being discussed and use that for inspiration. Great content ideas are all around you, you just have to look for them.
Simple Step #3 – Network with Other Bloggers. If you really want to become a better blogger, you need to hang out with bloggers. Get to know people that are doing what you are doing. Don’t go hanging out with bloggers that aren’t building a business if your goal is to build a business with your blog, that won’t help you at all. You need to surround yourself with people that think like you and are doing the things you want to do. Pick your company wisely, and then dive in and be a part.
Simple Step #4 – Keep a Blogging Notebook. This doesn’t have to be an actual physical notebook, it can be a note file, spreadsheet, or any other type of document on your computer. Or you can go old fashioned and get yourself a notebook or journal to jot down your ideas. You shouldn’t try to force yourself to sit down and write a blog post without any inspiration at all. Keep your ideas in one place that you can reference when you’re ready to write and you’ll always have a stack of ideas to choose from.
